Oct 15: A small mishap

Today was meant to be when I would go into the office for my RSO briefing. This is when the Regional Security Officer tells me how to stay safe in the county. They also cover any misceleanious things that I should be aware of in the area. Ideally people get this on the first day when they arrive, but normally it just happens within the first few. Like if you arrived on a friday, it might end up waiting until monday... In my case it's been a little longer than that. At the secret meeting the other day I was told that I should come in to the office today to get my briefing. The trouble is that the briefing is somewhere between work and personal, and I'm not meant to be doing work stuff at all. I was fine with it, I needed to go in and chat with the phone team downstairs anyways so I wasnt really stressing the details.

There was one detail that I was stressing though. Since there was never an official meeting scheduled, I didnt have the exact time straight in my head. I was pretty sure that I had been told to come in at 10:30... but part of me was thinking - "maybe it was 10:00". I didnt want to be late so I decided to just get there a little before 10:00, check in with the RSO and then if I was early I would work with the phone team first before the meeting. If I was on time, then I would just meet with the phone guys later. Simple! I decided to test walking into the office today and I dont think I will be doing that very often XD

The path to get there takes me past a few very busy roads that are kind of a pain to cross. Luckily there are a lot of sidewalks on the way (which makes things easier) but the traffic was really something else. Plus at the hour I was going in it was just far to hot. I arrived very sweaty and feeling a bit unpleasant. The dust picked up by all the traffic is never fun to deal with. Maybe things would be better if I was trying it out a spot earlier in the morning. One day I might try it.

I arrived and started making my way to where the meeting with the RSO should be happening and my MO (Management Officer) ran up and was like "Heeeeyyyyyy, you need to go to the lobby." Which was a little confusing for me, like I knew I was early... But didnt imagine it would be this much of an issue. I asked if I could perhaps go tend to the other items I had come to do, aka the router work with the telephone team and thats when she cleared things up a bit. Turns out there was some sort of drill scheduled today and I was not a factor that had been accounted for in that drill. Fair enough! The trouble was there was no good estimate on WHEN that drill would be happening. I was given the guestimate of "it'll probably be done by 11:30".... For a moment I thought about sticking around, or going to the mall and coming back. But then abandoned that idea. We just canceled the whole thing.

I walked home and was mostly bummed about the router situation. I had been scheduled to chat with those guys in the morning and this marks the second time that I scheduled a meetup that feel through. But I got a call from one of them a bit later and he just offered to come over and take a look! Turns out he needed to visit someone else's residence anyways and mine was on the way. Lucky me, and also what a cool dude! He came over and helped me sign in, there had been a couple of miscommunications between the two of us. I think I had done a bad job of describing the issue, but now I can sign into my router's admin side and alter it's internal settings to my hearts content. Very nice!

I'm going to try and be a little bit more deliberate on sharing photos - so here are some from around this day. While walking around in the area near my place I ran into an older guy walking his dog. His dog was very cute and reminded me a bit of Mika. I also just have a short video of the walk from my house to the nearest grocery store to me (not a super market... a HyperMarket lol ). And finally one of the first meals I got on Swiggy that impressed me. Tbh the food wasnt my favorite - I have since found better options. But what impressed me about it was the price. All in that photo (including delivery and tip) was about 500 INR - or just under 6 USD.
